One of our first nights in Rome, Buffy and I dined out. At this point in the trip, I was still getting a handle on my Italian, and tried to order what I thought would be a nice appetizer. The menu didn't say "antipasto misto", but I assumed when I ordered we would receive, traditionally, a variety of cured meats, cheeses, olives, and sometimes other veggies or nosh. This is not what arrived at the table. I was given a board. No, not a smorgasbord, but a cutting board. And a knife. And this:

While basking in the hot springs at the base of Arenal Volcano, deep in the Costa Rican jungle, my wife and I looked up to see the the sky turned an odd tan color just before it started to drizzle. The silhouette of the tree on the sky was stunning so I grabbed a pic. My wife and I who both find beauty in math realized why we were so drawn to the view, and later the image. While this isn't the absolute perfect example of the natural phenomenon or mathematical set known as a fractal, but close enough to enjoy the beauty in the expanding symmetry and pattern across different scales. Reason #867,234 I love my wife: While math isn't for everyone, anyone could say they find natural beauty in math. Buffy finds natural math in beauty.
